Michael Burleson is entering his 10th year as Head Band Director at Riverwood Middle School. Before joining Riverwood, he served as an assistant band director in Galena Park ISD and Klein ISD. A proud graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington, Mr. Burleson earned his Bachelor of Music degree in 2007.
Originally from Odessa, Texas, Mr. Burleson has built his career around a passion for music education and student success. Under his direction, the Riverwood Band program has continued to grow in both size and achievement.
Mr. Burleson is an active member of the Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA), the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), and the Texas Music Adjudicators Association (TMAA). He is also a past member of the national honorary band fraternity Kappa Kappa Psi.
He is married to Amy, a fellow band director in the Houston area. Together, they have a son, Cooper, who is beginning his second-grade year in Humble ISD. Rounding out the family is their sweet dog, Lenny, who has been a loyal companion for 14 years.
Nick Maxey is entering his 9th year as Assistant Band Director at Riverwood Middle School. Before joining Riverwood, he contributed his expertise as an Assistant Director for both high school and middle school ensembles in Taylor, Texas. In 2015, he earned his Bachelor of Music degree from Texas Tech University, where he was a proud member of the Kappa Kappa Psi service fraternity.
A native of San Antonio, Texas, Mr. Maxey's lifelong love for music and teaching first took root there. He remains dedicated to professional growth through his active membership in both the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) and the Texas Bandmasters Association (TBA), organizations that help him stay connected, continually learn, and collaborate with fellow music educators.
Outside the classroom, Mr. Maxey is happily married to his wife, Sarah, a physician practicing in the Kingwood area. The couple share their home with a highly pampered cat named Ria. Whether guiding students in the band hall or nurturing rhythm and harmony at home, Mr. Maxey brings unwavering energy, dedication, and care to everything he does. He looks forward to continuing to support the growth of his students—not only as musicians but as people.
Trinity Jones is excited to begin her 1st year as the Assistant Band Director at Riverwood, bringing both passion and expertise to her students. A graduate of the University of North Texas, she earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree with honors, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2025. Originally from Grand Junction, Colorado, Ms. Jones has embraced her new home in Kingwood, Texas, and is eager to share her love for music with her students.
Her primary instrument is the tuba, and she is an active member of the Texas Music Education Association (TMEA), the International Tuba Euphonium Association (ITEA), and Women Band Directors International (WBDI). Ms. Jones is also a proud member of the professional music fraternity Mu Phi Epsilon.
When she’s not in the band hall, Ms. Jones enjoys a variety of hobbies, from reading and crocheting to playing video games and experimenting with new recipes in the kitchen. She shares her home with her two cats, Void and Ginger, who are up to no good.
Ms. Jones is looking forward to a fantastic year of music-making, growth, and learning with the Riverwood band program.
